i poasted this on the xenocide forms and decide to put it hear as well
Dr Icarus genaral theroy of evrything
nouthing is true ecept,
no matter how big you are thare is always something bigger (thare is always a biger fish)
no matter how small you are thare is always something smaller (supperstings are made of supper threads)
no matter how hidden you are thare is always something more secret (the Ilumanity are just pawns in the play of the aliens)
no matter how much you know all your throys will be disproven (newton was shure gravaty was a force)
just beacuse you heard something or evean saw it whith your own eyes doestn mean its reall (i havent seen god but than aggen i haven seen these "atom" thngs eather)
realaty is what you make of it |

I say the theory is false. Well, at least the "reality is what you make of it" and "Nothing is true" parts. Everything lese is nothing more than relations. The term "big" is only useful in comparison to something else, same with "small". Whether something is "hidden" depends on one's reference point, and ultimately is a relative word. In fact most adjects are relative, so one cannot say they are true or false.
Now suppose you say "Billy is 5'6". That is a fact. That is true, there is no making it into anything else, unless you want to be picky and convert it to meters but even then, billy's height stays the same, just said in a different way.
True and reality are absolutes. Or perceptions of truth and reality are not. The more well-adjusted and honest with oneself one is, the closer to reality and truth the perceptions are. The closer they are the better. |

The theory is inconsistent. Suppose it is true.
If it is true in its entirety then it is true that "no matter how much you know all your theories will be disproven". This can be written:
For every person X, for every set of facts Y, for every theory Z: if X knows every fact in Y, and if Z is a theory authored by X, there exists a future state where Z is disproven.
We can of course replace "for every X" with "for a specific X" and the statement remains true hence:
For a specific person Icarus, for a specific set of facts {what Icarus knows}, for every theory Z: if Icarus knows {what Icarus knows}, and Z is a theory authored by Icarus, there exists a future state where Z is disproven.
This simplifies to:
For every theory Z: If Z is a theory authored by Icarus, there exists a future state where Z is disproven.
Since we are investigating the universal applicability of this theory, it is either true forever or it is disproven. Since it is authored by Icarus it will eventually be disproven. So it is disproven now. But it is also assumed to be true. We have a contradiction.
Hence, by the principle of Reductio Ad Absurdum, our original supposition (the theory is true) is false.
Brought to you by the department of confusing proofs. |
