Is there going to be anything comprable to the UAV from the stargate series?(little plane thingy for those who dont watch it)

I think it could be a great unit, scouter which can be changed for different tasks, such as painting a target for your artillery, possible even to carry a couple low yeild missiles. The advantages being it is small and manueverable, therefore being hard to hit, the downsides being a basic one hit kill from almost any ordanance, and limited usefulness (its not much use to have a painter if you dont have artillery that uses that system)

It's low priority but there was an idea to do a ground vehicle that can launch multiple UAV's when activated. Unlike a standard radar truck it wouldn't directly give away its own position, you would just see the UAV's. The UAV truck would also have the benefit of looking like a much bigger threat than it really is, especially if you had 2-3 of them each launching 4 UAV's that then start circling.

The idea came after reading about the Israel/Egypt war where the Israelis did exactly the same thing. The Eqyptians had large numbers of Russian made SAM's that were preventing the US supplied Israel airforce from flying. They sent over lots of UAV's and the Egyptians had no choice but to fire off all their missiles, shooting down a lot of unmanned remote controlled planes.

disquise them to look like other air units, to make them appear more threatening. Sort of like the Hallucination effect in StarCraft.

So basically some kind of sacruficial unit, that automatically spawns and takes hits for the parent unit. So cannon fodder.

The UAV's my wife works on aren't cannon fodder. They're full-fledged bombers.

UAV's (or UCAV's or UCAS's) come in all shapes and sizes. The most common ones are low-cost, the size of a hang glider, and are mostly used as scouts and quick-response planes. Israel uses theirs for assassinations -- they spot a particular terrorist guy, and can hit him with a missile within 2-3 minutes, rather than having to launch a fighter and take 20-30 minutes and maybe not get a shot off. But there are some that are larger, and work basically as full-fledged fighters or bombers.

Really, the question is, are you going to have small cheap recon planes? Remember, if they're unmanned, they can't have low morale Wink

I was thinking about have a little truck that when activated stops and launches 5-6 uav's that just "figure of eight" around it. A portable map exploration device. Sounds like a good idea, but often these things end up breaking the game, needs play testing.

I think a UAV launcher would be great, make it like a carrier from Starcraft, with up to four little planes that launch missiles and come back.

Then there's also the final stretch of the first Gulf War where some groups of Iraqi troops were surrendering to the Cypher(sp?) UAVs that were used to spot for artillery.
