Yep!
I would like to know if a french (or other langage) translation is on the pipeline ?
Actually, i'm playing to Mr Robot in english, and some things escapes to me.
If a team-modder wants to translate the game, is it possible ? if yes, which file can be edited ? |

Sadly there are no other languages available I'm afraid.
In the past I've had a few volunteer attempts, but it's a huge undertaking and every volunteer gave up after a while. It's not straightforward, there are multiple files to edit, all the text has to be checked to make sure it lines up in game (which takes hours) and then anything that doesn't fit needs redoing, some of the complex statements need discussing, rechecking, etc. It's too much work for a volunteer project I think. |

Yep, i know
I've worked on Torchlight translation this year (hack'n'slash game). It was a very long work.
I would like to see at least all files to estimate this work. I think these files are in mrrobot.000
Any idea to decompile this file ?

Are you planning to do a multi-lingual version of your next game? I'd really love to help making a German version possible. |

How can i test some bit of translation with the .txt ?
In french, we have lot of accents like that é,è,à,ÉÈ, etc. I don't know if they are supported ingame. |

As far as I can tell they are mostly - there are seven fonts
* Chat - upper and lower, has the usual set of Latin accents
* Hack - upper and small-upper; again, usual set of accents
* Main - upper and lower, Latin accents + Greek + Cyrillic
* Micro - upper and lower, Latin accents
* Mr Hud - LED style numbers and upper-case only; no accents
* System - upper and lower, no accents
* Title - upper and lower, Latin accents + more (won't view in my viewer) |

Here is a little kit to test new text (sorry it isn't easier, told you it was messy).

I put some instructions in the readme, but in summary:
1. use the new exe
2. edit your text however you want, but save from notepad
3. run the batch file to compile the text
4. copy the MrRobot.001 file into the game folder
5. run the game
It should work, but I suspect something will go wrong  |

To see how long it will take I started to translate the text to German. I've finished almost all text for the menus, which is about 20% of the file's line count. It only took about 2 hours, including tests for correctness and text width.
The actual game text will take much longer to translate, of course, but I guess that all of the translation can be done in less than 20 hours. (Without testing.)
The tooling works smoothly. Absolutely no problem there. And I also haven't encountered any hard-coded text yet.
Some buttons and labels are too small, though, which makes it sometimes tricky to find the right word(s) that fit. So far I only had to give up for 3 strings. (Waypoint saves, Waypoint resets, Room resets -- Gespeicherte Wegpunkte, Wegpunkte zurückgesetzt, Räume zurückgesetzt)
I'll maybe do some more 2 hours tomorrow, translating real game text, and report. And then maybe Poo Bear can make a statement whether or not he is willing to make a multi-lingual version of Mr. Robot in the near future, so it'd make sense to finish it.  |

| I'm honoured that people would spend time on this, I would stress though that a few people have volunteered in the past but then found it would just take too long and be too difficult (hard coded strings, not enough room, etc). It's one of those things where you do 90% of it quickly, but then get stuck in the last 10%. I wouldn't want anyone to take on too much. |

Hard coded strings and too small labels/buttons are fixable, probably without a lot of work.

The question really is: Are you interested in adding a French/German translation in Mr.Robot if someone manages to translate all strings? Even if it means that you may have to externalize some of the hard coded strings to the language file, add a menu entry for changing the language in-game and release an update of Mr. Robot etc.
It would be good to know. And I guess no one will be mad at you if the answer is 'No'.  |
