Brains........

Demo came out a couple of days ago, and while I think it's stupid beyond belief that the demo only works for a week, it did convince me to "pre-purchase" the game through Steam (which, as much as I hate, I'm becoming more and more addicted to). Now I just have to download ALL of it, but considering it's about 2/3rds the cost of buying a retail copy, it's worth it.

Admittedly, it's nice to see a PC game with decent co-op. There haven't exactly been many (any?) lately.

Anyone else have anything to say on the matter? Assuming you're still in possession of the speech center of your brain, of course.

nnnggghhh.

At first I was really unimpressed. I'll probably never play it coop and amongst what's left I can't see anything here that hasn't been done better before. I also don't see how they're going to keep it going for much longer than a few levels:
    * there's zombies who rush at you
    * there's a few special types of zombies and the witch
    * that's it?
How are they going to do the cool set-pieces - zombies rush at you from different directions at once?

After a few play-throughs of the demo I think I 'get' it better. I pre-ordered way-back before I'd played it (HL2 and Portal are great so what could go possibly wrong?) so I've paid up anyway. I expect I'll complete it single-player but it's not as good as I was expecting.

I don't think I can find the time to commit to a long coop campaign nowadays so maybe I'm missing out on the best bits? All the previews seem to love it so aybe it's just me.

I can't believe they're really going to pull the demo on Monday - that's crazy.

Played through a couple of campaigns... it's awesome if you can get four people together, although once I encountered a griefer who just killed the whole party (friendly fire is always on) and left.

Other than that, it's great fun... tiptoeing around witches, bashing hunters off people, unloading as much as possible as quickly as possible into a tank, generally mowing down hordes of zombies, and yelling at the guy who startles the witch.

About witches: they won't attack you unless you provoke them, however the following is a far from whole list of possible provocations:
Looking at a witch for too long.
Flashing your light on a witch.
Making too much noise near a witch.
Setting off a car alarm near a witch.
Walking too close to a witch.
Pretty much anything you can name short of breathing.
And witches are annoying because they're the only thing capable of killing you in one hit (which they don't often do, but they will knock off a fair chunk of your health).

There is a single player mode with AI, but it feels more like practice because while the AI players aren't quite godlike, they never accidentally hit me and rarely missed but they feel pretty sterile since all they do is follow you and shoot at whatever they can see (whether that's better than a human who runs off and gets dragged away by a smoker is debatable).
