(In other news: 3rd new thread in about 15 minutes! Go trolling!)
I just upgraded from a puny 17" CRT to a nice big (well not as big as I'd like, but it's a start) 22" widescreen LCD. What games should I have a look at (at least the demos) to show it off? Just remember that my computer is a ****** old (by today's standards) thing with a Pentium dual core (cut down core 2, basically) and a 7600GT. In case you haven't figured it out already, it won't run most games new enough to support a 1680x1050 resolution well (in my foolishness, I tried Crysis).

Oh and for that one person who cares (yes I read my own threads), I'll be making a widescreen version of War Pong... sometime.

I've got a 7600GT and P4-3.4GHz, I've also noticed you have to be quite careful when selecting games. I'm currently playing Stalker and it runs well on medium quality. Your cpu sounds a bit better than mine so you might be able to get it up to that res on low quality. Going from 1Gig to 2Gig makes a difference in some games and memory is quite cheap these days.

Doom3 ran very well, but is generally a bit dark.

Prey is made using the Doom3 so it runs fine and I thought it looked more impressive (and brighter) than Doom3 anyway.

Half Life 2 also runs very well.

note to self - I really need some better gear so I can try some more recent games.

My 7600GT died on me. Not a bad thing... gave me an excuse to get a new 9600GT. Next time I have money, I'm getting a bigger case (this thing is freaking huge, it just fits) and a better power supply (I hope I don't want to add anything else any time soon, since I'm out of free connectors), although I suppose thats what I get for getting the el cheapo case and power supply in the first place.

Although the most terrifying part of that card's power/size is that, for some people, it's only half of what they need.

Has anyone here gotten a chance to play around with SLI or ATI's equivalent? Is there really a noticeable difference with two of those monsters vs. just one?

I've always been suspicious of sli/crossfire, I don't think I've seen a game benchmark report anything like X2 speed up. It usually seems 30-50% faster and nvidia gave the impression they were writing specific driver tweaks to support specific games which seems a bit mad. Maybe things have improved these days, but there used to be quite a few games where sli didn't work. The power consumption, noise and heat generated must be shocking. I get the impression it's something only needed by people wanting to run at very high resolution with anti-aliasing on. I've got a 21inch CRT monitor and 1280x1024 is fine for me, although I'm sure higher res would be nicer.
