From the recent "web 2.0 expo" conference:

"The next evolution for the Web isn't about 3D. It's about a sense of place. Already we see that Web 2.0 is pushing the notion of web communities even further into the foreground. What we don't have yet is a sense of location, landscape, and proximity. The future of the Web lies at the intersection of massively multiplayer online games like World of Warcraft and social networks like MySpace. The age of the webpage is ending, and the age of the webplace is beginning."

A transcript of this particular talk is here:

Interesting to hear people talking about gaming/social sites/games/MMOs - what do you call them? - that I doubt many of us have heard of yet are apparently visited by vast hordes of players.

"I think games which cost $20 and take four years to make are obsolete."

"manga and anime, if you think that isn't mainstream, you're old and out of touch."

"tv is becoming a little niche... Virtual reality dwellers outnumber population Canada."

ho ho - great stuff Smile
