But sometimes that's what you need. You don't need proof that something's gone wrong, you need to know how to reproduce it so you can debug it.

Screenshots may show little important details that only the dev team will know to look for - I can see they would be useful - but sometimes they'll just show the symptom not the cause. A screenshot does not replace repeatable instructions to reproduce.

I think when we move to Olympus, we'll plan out exactly what we need, but since we are going to throw away the current board, it's not worth spending too much time on it.

Hmmm? Olympus? What/where's that? Other than a legendary mountain, anyway. Throw away the whole message board, or just the bugs system? Will you save/archive posts?

whut?! I said nothing against that.
Sometimes you need people that hesitate wo write a bug report because the way is too long???? I don't get it.
Knowing the way how to reproduce a bug IS the proof that somethings going wrong!!!
I don't mean to replace a good bug description with screenshots only. But having both options is the best way. For instance: this starscape bug report here. How whould you explain that with text only? Laughing

Olympus? hehe :] I just thought it meant: "when we have time to make it top notch".

Ah - I misunderstood you, sorry. You said 'way is too long' and I thought you meant 'way to reproduce' not 'way to submit'.

Apologies, I sometimes forget that I'm using phrases people won't have heard because Mark and I are discussing ideas constantly and all the jargon and codenames become second nature.

p.s. we wont lose any post from the current board.

We still use an old copy of Source Safe where I work. Smile We know it's problems, but just haven't found something to replace it yet. Know problems are sometimes better than the unknown.

For Bug tracking we use Jira:
http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/
It should be similar in price of FogBugz.

I'm a Perl developer and I was scared of Bugzilla! Smile

Hey,

I see the game is coming along smoothly -- I can't wait. So... when are the beta sign-ups?

Ah ok! So rather a finished MrRobots than gaudy pictures and stuff this month? :]

I see there already have been small interrupts in the diary history:
no September-04, Jul/Aug-05 put together, Oct/Nov/Dec-05 put together returning with a fat report!, no January-06.. oh but I love these reports. Keeping me from working ;]
For me there is still a lot of what I didn't read yet.
