Will there even be a preorder package with some kewl gimmick attached to it? Like an Asimov figurine (there was a discussion about Mr.Robot toys some while ago I think)?

We've had quite a few emails asking about pre-orders, and I would love to do it, but it's quite difficult if not impossible with nearlt all payment schemes I've looked at. Namely - with preorders, you don't usually charge the person until the product ships. I can't see an easy way to do that other than charging people now, and then having them wait for shipping; which obviously isn't a good idea, or something we'd be comfotable with.

Switching to more advanced payments systems, where we collect the credit card data and then run it through a merchant account of our own would make it possible; but whilst that's within reason, I'm far more comfortable letting another company who specialises in it take care of credit card and ordering security - both for our peace of mind and our customers.

As for toys and/or a toy bundle pack: again, nobody wants that more than us! Smile Realistically though, it's only a dream at the moment, but something I'm promising to look into. It will depend on how well sales of Mr. Robot go, and even then, the turnaround is unlikely to be faster than 4 months. So we are talking a post Mr. Robot project, with a low probability Sad

Well - I for my part wouldn't mind paying in advance. I've seen several preorder items being handled that way. Should the preorder package equal a small discount and the guarantee to receive the game as soon as possible - or better yet, e.g. 1 day or sth. before the official release date - then I'm all for it.

That's the way to do it - if you are accepting pre-orders, then some kind of discount, or special item. Although we'll be doing something for our existing customers anyway.

The big problem with toys etc for us, is the fact that we are in the UK. That means we get tons of import duty on everything before we've even begun, and then have to pay crazy prices to post heavy items internationally. We wouldn't even be worried about making a profit on them - we'd be happy to sell them at cost, but even then I'm not sure it will be possible to have them at a reasonable price.

Still, I'm definitely going to look into it. Smile

A fine and dandy explanation.

So, will you guys boot up BattleScape Development right after a stable version of Mr Robot or will you be fixing that up for awhile?

And will War Angels be done this year?

Have you guys bothered to contact some big publishers like Eidos, Ubisoft, Atari, THQ, etc.?

Trust me, your game has the quality and polish that would easily get their interest. I know, your margins will be a lot higher going it alone, but I am sure your ser base would be a lot bigger if you went through one of the bigger publishing houses.

Just give it a shot.

Right on brother! The revolution starts here!

To answer the question though -
Mainstream publishers just are not interested in this level of gaming - their market is pretty much consoles, and PC releases make up for a tiny profit. That PC audience is also made up from 'high end' gamers (people with the latest cutting edge hardware). As a rule, they aren't interested in a game unless it shows off what their hardware can do, and maybe even go as far as saying they won't play a game without multiplayer or that's 2D. Still, there are lots of people who will play both (even on this forum Smile ), which is great for us, but I doubt a mainstream publisher would want to risk any kind of marketing budget on us.

Budget publishers I shouldn't really need to go into as they've been covered enough on these forums. Suffice to say - there are very, very few that are worth dealing with - although the ones that are worth it are an absolute joy to work with.

To be honest, and I'd not be surprised if a lot of people didn't believe this, we don't really care that much about money. Yeah, we want to be comfortable, have nice holidays, and generally stop having to worry about money, but predominantly, we just want to get some of the ideas out of our heads and onto a computer screen.

Poo Bear was telling me the other day how if we were well off, he'd rewrite Starscape from the ground up to be more easily extensible so we could take the concept much further - I know he'd do that simply as a matter of pride. You see the thing is - money never really makes you happy. It's an old cliche, but you need to find something to do with your life that fullfils an inner need.

Anyway, we aren't at that point yet; we are still slaves to mortgages and bills Sad but hopefully that will change with more games out, and to me, money just means more opportunities to realise ideas - toys, improvements to existing games, maybe hire some more people so we can get our ideas out faster. So - we aren't too worried about attracting a massive audience other than to fulfill those needs.

if you ever remake starcape call it starscape REDUX
and do this
icarus wrote:

you would customize your ship not just adding weapons and components but even changing this shape of the hull affecting the appearance
however the archnid would do this to and adapt to your strategies with their own customized ships that are constantly evolving to match your strategies

also you would be able to incorporate archnid tec into yourself and become EVIL Twisted Evil

Amazing!

You know, you could piece these together into a book or something -- wonderful resource if you add to it.

The making-of, if you will =D

Good luck!
