Wow! i can't wait to see this Very Happy An insect based shoot-em-up.
Chances of seeing an arcade machine anywhere in the West?? 0%
Chances of a port appearing to a console? 50%
Chances of that port being released in the West: 0% Crying or Very sad

Beautiful Artwork though.

There's more info at click-stick

Makes you wonder how many handmaidens armed with hairspray cans that lady has.

Anyone with an interest in shooters and a broadband connection should check out this video of MushiHime in action:

157 meg.

It's direct video out - so the video is on its side, but they have to be the most shocking bullet patterns I've ever seen - how is it even possible to navigate!!

Woo!

Probably the first truly decent Shoot-Em-Up news in a long time.

Finally got Mushihimesama a couple of days ago and, while I've not been able to devote much time to it yet, it seems to be a bit special.

There're a whole load of game modes to cater for different tastes. At one end, there's the "original" mode which is quite old-school, with no complex scoring system and a lot less bullets on-screen. Then at the other end, there's Ultra mode which fills the screen with bullets and has a scoring system that requires you to plan your path through the level quite carefully in order to keep your bonus up (similarish to DoDonPachi Dai-Oujou). There's also an arrange mode, which gives you new patterns to deal with, plus allows you to switch weapon modes at will, rather than needing pickups as you do in arcade mode.

The PS2 port isn't as good as some of the earlier Cave releases (I think Arika did those), and there's a lot less in the way of screen mode options, which is a shame. Also, no digital audio support, which is really odd. I can only think of a couple of other PS2 games that disable the digital output. Still, it's solid enough, and there are plenty of worse arcade conversions out there.

The graphics are absolutely lovely, though, and static screens don't do it justice. They've really nailed the organic feel for the movement of the enemies. My favourite bit so far is a level where the entire background of the stage is a giant, moving insect (think R-Type level 3). The whole thing writhes and pulses underneath your ship, with plates shifting over each other as the insect runs forwards. It just looks brilliant, and is a great reminded of how good 2D graphics can look.
