OK, i've installed the game on two different machines now and get the same errors:
1) Error: can't open keymap.txt for writing
Assertion Failed:
Expression: 0
File: .\Source\frontend.cpp
Line 14317
2) Assertion Failed
Expression: m_isOpen
File: .\Source\quickfile.cpp
Line: 788
I get this just going into the game and then hitting quit. This also happens when i go to try and save.
Help! |

Sorry about that.
What version of the game are you running? (top left on first screen after game loads).
What is your install path? (mine is c:\program files\starscape)
What is your mydocuments path? (mine is c:\documents and settings\muppet\my documents\)
What OS are you running XP or Vista?
Has it always done this or was it ok and then you updated? |

I ran into an assert as well...
Scavenger game, moving directly from zone 1 to zone 3 (I save zone 2 for later -- the cap ships drop better loot after I've beat the zone 3 boss.) Hadn't saved yet. Window title "Bad do", Assertion failed: Expression: realNum == num, file: .\Source\zone.cpp line: 1933. It came up as I was actually moving from node to node.
Version is 1.6MP (bottom left of my screen, not top left.) Install path is c:\games\starscape. Docs path is C:\users\Lothar\documents\Starscape. Running vista, don't know the current build. This is the first time I've seen the assert, though I regularly used to get crashes going directly from zone 1 to zone 3 if I hadn't saved my game yet. Sometimes the crashes were when moving, and other times, later in the zone. |

And another:
Bad do
Assertion Failed:
Expression: m_pEmitter
File: .\Source\shipres.cpp
Line: 1001
Scavenger game, zone 1, no saves, launching ship in a node with a mining barge. Third barge (baiting them, as I do in scavenger.)
As the game continued, I got the same assert every time I approached a mining barge -- until I saved. Then the problem went away, at least for a while. Came back after a bit, and went away when I saved again.
There's something about saving the game that seems to fix the weird states it gets into. |

Hi Lothar
Just noticed the version number on the updates page still says 1.6 - doh! We are actually on 2.3 after a slew of really minor issues cropped up one after the other. Anyway, I don't think the official version will fix this problem.
Can you try this one instead 2.4
www.moonpod.com/temp/InstallStarscape_2.4.exe
I can't reproduce either of them but the second could be too many gravity beam scoop things in the same place somehow so I might have fixed that.
The first is weirder, but I've changed a few things that might help. |

I am also having the same problem. I just installed Starscape again, first time to try it on a Vista computer. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 2.4 version; same problem. I have run it in compatibility mode with XP SP2 and have run it as administrator, same problem. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Usually that means the file has been locked, it's corrupt or the install has screwed up. I'd un-install, then check manually everything has really gone, especially in mydocuments\mrrobot. Then get a fresh download and install again. |

That chip specifically? I haven't been keeping up on the whole AMD vs. Intel thing, but I haven't been hearing good things about AMD's side recently. |

well, i got it from the dell refurbished site, so cheaper than usual. I also got a higher clockspeed than intels for the same price which is why I chose it. |
