Ok, so far we've mentioned:

'Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto' by Styx
'Robot' by T.A.T.U

any others?

Hybrid's "We Are In Control"?

They use an old Texas Instruments speech chip for the lyrics, the sort you could get for BBC Micros. OK, bit tenuous, but I like the track Smile

In the theme music from the excellent cartoon series Ulysses31 there is one tiny bit sung by Nono the robot:

"It's me Nono, small robot you know, friend of Ulysses"

It's always stuck in my head for some unknown reason.

Don't buy the US edition as it only has 4 random episodes on it, try and get the European release as it contains the entire series!

Hmm, the only songs I know with Robot-themed lyrics are super-dramatic songs that wouldn't really fit in Mr. Robot.

In that case, Robotron 2000 by Freezepop. It's a funny, odd synthpop love story. Ummm... yeah. I'll post lyrics later, or I believe a remix is legally available for free.

Well, I know of a song that is about a robot tank wanting to be human, from the Ghost in the Shell universe titled Be Human. It's a bit slow-going but as always with Yoko Kanno, it's memorable.

Robot Themed Lyrics in music? Well the only one that comes to mind is Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger.

Here's a remixed music from the Crono Trigger game, in which you get to have a character that's a robot : http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00988

Maybe you'll find some inspiration from this...

Here's the comment from the reviewer :
Quote:
Superlative, and oh-so-creative, Star Salzman's latest ReMix is an 80's maximalist electro-pop arrangement of Robo's theme from Chrono Trigger, with original lyrics to boot. This is simply a great concept executed with talent and style, lending the sound of 80's acts like Bucks Fizz and Electric Light Orchestra to Mitsuda's work, with harmonizing, processed "robotic" vocals ala the Thompson Twins, in a semi-vocoded style. If you're not up on your 80's, think 'Digital Love' by Daft Punk. If you are up on your 80's, on the other hand, this might remind you of some of Jeff Lynne's work, particularly the score to the movie 'Electric Dreams' (an amusing bit of 80's nostalgia itself, in which a PC takes over its user's life+house after having a cold beverage spilt on it ^^) - this absolutely sounds like it's been transplanted from almost two decades ago, the suspension of disbelief is that effective. The lyrics are humorous but also work musically and contextually make perfect sense, adding yet more depth. More than being a rearrangement, like a certain other ReMix from Chrono Trigger, it creates its own world. Very polished, immaculately authentic genre work from Star, memorable to the extreme, and a huge windfall for fans of this type of track. If Jeff Lynne tried to turn Robo's theme into a fully developed song, with vocals, I wouldn't expect the result to be any better than this. Highly recommended.

Yes, almost anything by Kraftwerk (although Robots wins: 'we are the robots')

Let's see...

Mr. Bungle None Of Them Knew They Were Robots

Black Sabbath Iron Man

The entire album Deltron 3030

Probably a bunch of KMFDM I can't think of

Almost every Gary Numan song (check the albums Replicas and The Pleasure Principle for starters.. "down in the park where the machmen meet, the machines are playing kill by numbers".. Engineers.. a whole mess of songs there)

I'd be surprised if Monster Magnet didn't have a robot song, although I can't think of one.

I'd bet Devo has some stuff (in fact, this and Numan, you should start a new wave collection, probably a lot about robots there I'm not familiar with)

After a quick search online I found the word 'robot' in only 2 Aesop Rock songs, but a lot of his stuff has similar themes. Along those lines, El-P and Dr. Octagon too.

Atari Teenage Riot is another place to look, off the top of my head Start The Riot has samples along the lines of "what's so appealing about becoming a human anyway?"

Hawkwind and Rush might be other fertile places to check, although I can't think of anything explicit.
