  I'm with Fost on this.

Also worth a look :

- I Of The Dragon (www.primal-soft.com): part RTS, part dragon simulator.

- Spellforce (www.spellforce.com): half RTS, half RPG.

  For my money Crimsonland also deserves a spot at the top of the shareware gameplay pyramid.

It's a minimalist Robotron-style ultra-homicide game, and like Starscape, it's a brief glimpse of gaming ...

  Syndicate had a sequel: Syndicate Wars.

Admittedly they fiddled with the formula, but it was still brilliant.

Best game of 1996, for mine.

After playing the impressive demo, a couple things nag me: do enemies continually respawn without limit? Not being a young man anymore, I find the constant pressure a bit off-putting.
