HI

I just bought starscape and it works fine on my main computer and laptop. Do i have to buy another copy to run it in on my laptop also? I can only run it in demo mode and dont see how to activate it since it is machine specific when generating the registration code. I am using the download version. I only want to use it on 2 computers so was hoping i can activate it without having to wait for yet another activation code or buy a CD i dont need.

Later,
RJD

yes, you can. log into the customer area and request a new code. don't forget to put in the request code from your laptop when you do it though, otherwise you'll get a useless code Wink

Is there any kind of time limit that applies to when you can get a new key? I'm a college student currently on spring break and seriously considering getting Starscape. However, I won't be back at school until next week, and I would prefer to have the game on my computer there, since I'll have more access to it. Would it be possible for me to get a key both for my computer at home and (a week later) for the one at school? (Wait, just checking, do you have to pay for the second code? The reply wasn't ultra clear about this. Sorry for the general noobishness.)

Thanks,
Senath

No, you can get up to 3 codes when you purchase the download version and there's no timelimit on when you can get them. This is also set to change with the release of Mr. Robot - we are going to add an additional code when you have reached the limit, that will reset on a timeout basis - so (in theory!) you should always be able to get a code under normal use (say a few years down the line, you decide to reinstall on a new pc, we are confident you'll have no troubles!)

No worries - if there's any fault it's ours for not being clearer. We are going to rewrite the help on all this at some point so it's much more useful...

I build my own PCs and frequently swap out or upgrade video cards, hard-drives, memory, etc. Will I have to get a new key every time I change my hardware? And if so, am I limited to 3 upgrades?

I ask this because I use 3DSMAX software (keygen based) and spend time on the phone with them each month to get a new key (which is a pain.) Trying to avoid this scenario if possible.

Thanks,
LL

Right now, 3 is the maximum, but if you do get stuck just email us - I know that's a pain. As soon as we can, we want to change over to having an additional code available on a timeout basis - so you should always be able to get a code no matter what. We are also working on having a faster unlock system with everything done in game if you have an internet connection - this will be part of Mr. Robot, and part of the next Starscape update.
Sorry I can't give you a better answer than that - but it shouldn't be too far off and in the meantime our friendly customer support are only an email away. Smile

Of course you could always just buy the game on CD, that way it doesn't need an online registration it will just work as long a sthe CD is in. You can even unlock the demo straight away while waiting for the CD to arrive! Can't say fairer than that Smile

Just wanna say thanks for that if I hadn't already. T'was a big help being able to play the game while I waited for my hard copy (games I like, I simply must have a hard copy of).

About the codes though, I wanted to lend my brother my CD copy to play with since I'm still running off of the old unlocked download version. He's had it for awhile but I don't know what he's been able to do with it if anything. I'd thought I'd just let him keep that copy and I'd just buy a new copy for myself though.

Before I do that though, maybe I should pass along his name and you can tell me if he already has unlocked it or bought his own. If he hasn't I figure it can be my surprise to him Smile

Again, this is just like a slashdot anti-steam discussion, and I don't like to deal in possibility only reality. I have to say again - if it's a problem for you that you that the possibilty isn't there (even if you may never use it) then you should probably just not buy games off us. I hate to turn customers away:), but we have to draw a line somewhere, and this, currently, is where we have put it.

I find this a really odd discussion though - we are only talking one extra unlock code here. Aren't you more inclined to say you want to do away with the keys alltogether and have an unprotected download? In which case, I'd have to agree - that would be better for the customer, but we believe it will affect the business. I may sound materialistic, but I'm not really; safeguarding Moonpod as a company that will continue to make games is really the only goal in making money in the first place. There's a lot more money for the amount of effort you put in in virtually any other industry. We are cursed with the wish to make games Sad

So far as I'm aware, this is the most user-considerate copy protection system out there, short of none-at-all. Has anybody encountered better? Steam is very good, but pretty much demands a constant Internet connection. Most commercial games have a more restrictive system.

Come to think of it, I can't think of a better way to do it than they already are. Incidentally I'll probably be getting my second copy some time this week after I pay some bills.
