No, we aren't working on an XBLA Starscape right now, but it's something we've thought about a lot. I thought some people might find these mock-up shots interesting:

Starscape on Xbox Live Arcade: Xenohuner
Xenohuner (Unreleased capital ship)

Starscape on Xbox Live Arcade: Boss Attack with Aegis assistance

Starscape on Xbox Live Arcade: XBLA spec ship construction screen.

If you release a version of Starscape for live arcade, I may have to buy a 360 just to try it out.

I kid you not, that's one of the most awsome looking things I have seen Shocked

Wow I am going to have to buy an Xbox.

(Why does "an Xbox" sound better than "a Xbox?")

Man, that looks totally awesome. I would very much have liked to play that. I wouldn't buy an XBox for a single game (oh man, if I had the kind of money that would allow such waste.), but if I do at some point get an XBox, Starscape would be the first thing I downloaded off of XBLA.

I think Starscape would be ideally suited to XBLA, which doesn't really have anything like it at the moment. It would also be a great way for you guys to reach a new audience (I don't think the average console gamer is aware of indie PC games). I'd buy it for sure.

How much work would it take to port? You'd have to upscale the graphics and reformat for widescreen, but most of the code would already be there and the control scheme is already well suited to a console pad.

I agree, it would be a great xbla game if the controls were completely redone - it wouldn't be nice as it is now, I've tried with a x360 pad in the PC and it works but isn't ideal. Twin sticks is a possible improvement (like mutant storm), but it would need a lot of play testing and tweaking to get the feel and difficulty right.

Our problem is we need A) Microsoft to actually reply to emails and show an interest and B) someone with cash to back it so we can hire a couple more programmers.

Sadly, I don't hold out much hope.

After you mentioned it, I actually tried to play the game with my X360 pad and it didn't work very well (kept spinning in circles), but I'm sure that could be smoothed out fairly easily with a bit of tweaking. I wouldn't like to see it go to dual-stick controls, though, XBLA is full of dual-stick shooters and there's a pleasant old-school feel to shooting in the direction you're facing. Plus, as you mentioned, switching to dual-stick would require a lot of testing and re-balancing.

As for trying to drum up a bit of interest or funding, have you tried getting in touch with the guys at Penny Arcade? Tycho seemed to enjoy the game quite a lot. Even if they can't help directly, getting a mention on their site would make a lot of people aware of it again.

Penny Arcade is a great site, but advertising on it isn't cheap. In fact internet advertising in general is very expensive. Word of mouth advertising is much better - so tell your friends ! Smile

I was thinking more of trying to get a mention in the PA news post, rather than buying ad space.

Anyway, best of luck, I hope something does work out as I'd love to see the game on XBLA. Until then, I will keep telling people to have a look at the PC version.
