If you guys would be so nice to provide a bit of support for the demo, I kinda need help please.

I downloaded the Mr Robot Demo, installed, started it and the screen went blank. I sat there for a few min's, and realized that nothing was happening.
So i did a nice alt-tab, and guess what was lurking below! You guessed it, an error message.

Code:
Failed to select technique zero from shader - data/gui/font.shader

Assert failed!

Expression: 0

File: .\Source\DX9Renderer_SceneGraph.cpp

Line: 891

Function: CDX9Renderer::LoadShaderFromPath

Call Stack:

004EB2F9  0012FA64  0001:000EA2F9 E:\Program Files\MrRobot\MrRobot.exe

GFX card is a little ****** Geforce 4 MX 420. Surely the game runs on directx 7 hardware!

Try updating your graphics card drivers for a start. Maybe this already fixes the problem...

Sorry, we've been having a celebratory Curry!

What graphics card are you using? That error is that it can't display the font shader - although this might sound crazy, the font shader runs as a vertex shader so we can manipulate it in certain ways. Although it should run in software if you have no vertex shader support Confused

Sorry, the tikka biryani has sent me blind. Smile

The game needs DX9c installed, but it doesn't need DX9 'class' hardware. In fact, I think I had it going on a geforce2, so an MS 420 should work, as it;s about the same.

Do you have dx9c installed? the game is supposed to pop up a message if you don't, but it's very hard for us to test that, because you can't easily uninstall directx versions.

Indeed i do, i needed it for Mount&Blade. I just downloaded it about a week ago, so it is defiantly the latest.

EDIT: Disabling Direct3D and DirectDraw Acceleration in dxdiag has stopped the game opening at all. The config window opens, but after i click ok nothing happens.

EDIT2: WEEE, new error. Accleration enabled, 16bit color and windows, previously was fullscreen 32bit. This ones a bit more user friendly.

Code:

Error: couldn't create device, it doesn't support what you are trying to do. Please restart, sorry.

Hmm, I think we are stuck until Mark wakes up then (which may be a few days Smile )

I'll try and dig up the Geforce 2 though for testing...

The main difference, as far as I recall, is that although the Geforce 4 MX doesn't do vertex shaders in hardware, the drivers report that it can, and it then does custom software vertex processing in the driver (similar to some of those Intel chips, I think).

I've got a 16MB Geforce4MX in my laptop and it works fine except for not supporting 16bit mode (drivers are too old and the manufacturer is too lazy to update them).

It looks like a driver problem to me I'm afraid, the game does run on GF4MX's.

Sad

Funny thing is the drivers I got for my laptop came off Windows update, maybe that's why they worked as I suspect Microsoft carry only whql certified stuff (the drivers were very old).

date - 17/10/2003
version - 4.5.9.1
nv4_disp.dll - 6.14.10.4591

I don't know if it makes a difference but my card is a Geforce 4MX-Go, maybe the "go" part is the difference that means this one works and yours doesn't?

Windows update has never offered me drivers, even on a fresh install.

And the drivers on Nvidia's site ARE whql qualified, Microsoft is just slow.

Im downgrading drivers, will tell you if anything else happens.

EDIT: You guessed it, no show. Downgrading drivers is a messy business,2 restarts and alot of install hardware windows >.>
