Well over a month ago, I started to work on something... I ask now, is this called a Nanomek?

The recent development diary seems to have pinned a name to the image of the little bot. Now I finally have a name for the robot for which I have mostly crafted a paper model design.

It wasn't easy -- I traced rough shape proportions out and turned it into vector shapes, all in Microsoft Word, and I got this far with the lovingly hand-detailed, thin-paper roughs...

... before giving up, knowing I had messed up vital proportions.

Also, if I ever get it finished (with a little nudging into correct proportionality), I can reveal the super-secret poseability method that this design would use... basically 10 axis points of rotation.

Also, I must ask if it is okay for me to make this. I imagine that someday, I'll meet the person that tells me "No, we've already contracted a paper model design of that character with a trusted associate and yours infringes on our market rights", and who knows, Moonpod may be the first. Smile

Yeah that's amazing! I did a double take when I saw it because the image is so close to the original model:

Can't wait to see the final result!

Holy ****!
If you get it finished, PLEASE try to create a template we can print, colour and fold ourselves! I'd LOVE to have a bunch of little nanomeks on top of my screen! Will he be the first Mr. Robot jedi, perhaps?

That's the idea! It's up to you to figure out how to enlarge it to "life-size" proportions though.

Others models I've made that you can build are here.

I love you. Very Happy

I don't need life-sized ones, though. I'm gonna make tiny, little ones that I can put on my monitor, and the iMac's top is not even five centimetres thick. This is going to be SO awesome! I wish I had thought of that first. You should strike up a deal with the guys for making templates of all the major robots. They could include cardboard-printed templates in their game boxes!

Eeh-hee-hee! I'm excited now. I'll go to bed.

I'd love to see a room of Nano's, like those rooms full of figures Antony Gormley makes.:

Might make a great PC case mod too Smile

Here's a progress prototype update.

Things that still need work:

- The arms need adjustments in scale in a number of ways

- I'll need to trace the font for the names of the robots -- Huey, Duey, and Luey, right?

- Color will be done in Word, so will be limited to gradients and flat tones -- similar to the first pic in this thread. Fancier highlighting and special art effects can be done by zealous modders using screengrabs from the Word file or the the PDF file.

- Separate versions of the model patterns with Black & White uncolored, Full Color, and Color without dark lines.

This prototype doesn't have my super secret joint implementation and I'm very hesitant to give away the secret before I have a chance to make thick stacks of cash off its brilliance. But this also means that I can get to model onto your internets sooner... as soon as late Sunday night.

Nice, now get started on the room interiors.

Make a two piece silicone mould out of that, cast it in plastic then send an invoice to Nick.

Actually, they are all just Huey's. We decided they were all made by one company called 'The Huey Robot Corporation'.

PS- the paper model looks totally amazing Smile
