You'll be disappointed if you are looking for a historical look at Sparta and Thermopylae. The comic (and thus the film) was never intended to be a history lesson, it's more of an 'opera'. Check out the over the top physical deformities of Ephialtes for instance. I think in this case it will be fine though - the whole point is that it looks like and IS a heroic fantasy tale. Best of all, unlike Troy, it doesn't have Brad **** in to ruin the whole experience. |

Yeah, I'm remembering Sin City and some of the over the top parts of that movie. Actually, all of that movie was over the top, but it was still pretty good. And I have to agree about Brad. I never went to see Troy, but I heard lots of friends talking about how the entire movie was an excuse to show his, erm, backside.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited about the 300. There's always a part of me that loves historical fiction, no matter how much or how little the "historical" part comes into play |

Well just saw 300 and.
It **** kicked ***!
If you are a guy, it has EPIC battles!
If you are a chick, Queen Gorgo is just as badass as her husband.
If you are strait, it has b00bs.
If you are gay/female, it has hawt muscular guys battling in leather codpieces.
If you are a history buff, it has plenty of errors for you to point out (the Persian Immortals were spearmen not swordfighters)
If you like gore, it has peoples heads getting cut off.
IF YOU ARE ANY OF THE ABOVE THAN GO SEE THIS MOVIE! |

| Supposedly the 23rd, although that's usually in London, and everywhere else gets it the Friday after. |

| Possibly out in the UK first too! Although there's a whiff of 'The Descent' about that decision... |

Actually, the new apple HD trailer is a lot better quality if your PC can cope:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/sunshine/hd/
although I like the UK one best as it doesn't give as much away and have the stupid Chris Evans voice-over ...
(I noted that the Japanese captain's voice-over from previous trailers was dropped ) |

"At the edge of space!"
"There's no SPACE!"
"A girl!"
"No."
"TWO Girls!"
"NO!"
*loves the trailer for The Comedian... Still hasn't seen the movie, though.* |

Btw -finally saw 300 last week. Well, women can have their chick flicks, and men can have this - it's a A MANFLICK!
Honestly, one of my favourite stories ever - so it could have been half as good and I'd have loved it, but it truly rocked.
BAD: The weird mutilated executioner was an odd addition. The Queen has a good part, but the actress playing her could have been better. A lot of the Greeks don't look particularly Greek. I'm pretty much struggling, because these aren't really bad points, just 'odd' points.
GOOD: At last, a film, for MEN (although I dragged my wife, who is Greek-Cypriot, to see it and she loved it too!). No holds barred fighting action, the kind of film that will find a fond place in your heart over the years. The kind of film that can make grown men cry because there's not an ounce of girlyness about it.
"My queen, my wife, My love..." |
