Not much, these days, I guess. I used to play some arcade games in MAME, such as Gauntlet, Super Puzzle Fighter*, Golden Axe and so on. Tetris Attack on a SNES emulator is also really good.

I tried playing Gish two-player, but nobody else seemed very keen on the idea. I really wish that the PC worms games supported joypads so you could play them like the console versions. I'm sure I've played other multiplayer games with the joypads, but I can't quite remember what.

I'm kind of hoping that if the whole computer-as-media-centre idea develops we'll see more one-computer multi-player games.

Weeble.

* - Don't buy the PC version! It's terrible. Or at least buy it and then get the MAME version to play instead.

They've just updated Gish to have a 4 player mode Smile

In my opinion, the best multiplayer games ever are Bomberman and Mario Kart on snes.

I know some people who play Genesis Bomberman via Kaillera even now.

We still play eight-player Micromachines V3 in the office - must be three or four years now. We've got a PS2 hooked up to our conference projector, and there're very few games that'll do eight players on a single screen. The only other game that ever took off was Tekken Tag but that's dwindled away. Dance mat games did OK for a while but the office downstairs complained Smile We still dig the mats out for office parties.

Anyone suggest anything else we can try?

Micromachines is great!

You can get 8 player bomberman going on Saturn Bomberman if you can find the hardware. Tough, but well worth it. Although one of the Snes versions will do 5 players.

If anyone can stand the wait, then amiga Speedball II is great for running a tournament.

Many players + one screen is a forgotten art in game design sadly.

Can you use the enumeration order and prefix the joystick names with things like "1) " and such? It may change when unplugged and replugged, but at least it should be consistent for the current game...

Super Smash Brothers: Melee. But that's on the Gamecube, which is designed to take 4 identical controllers.
