Hahaha! that would make a great ad. we are always short of new ad ideas, as we like to keep updating them so people don't get bored.
As for advertising Battlescape - We'll probably switch everything over to that on release, at least for the first few months when we are (hopefully) getting some press for it. We don't have much of a budget for advertising anyway, so it makes sense to concentrate it on launch. Indie games have a much longer 'shelf' life than shop released games - so I can still see us advertising Starscape well into the future if we can get good deals (as ever - if you know of, or run, a good site to advertise on - feel free to contact us or post). If you think about it, Starscape isn't a game that ages anyway - it's not like you would think not to buy it now because it was released a year ago (in fact, if anything, it's a far better proposition now with all the many addons it has.)
Exposure is a big issue for us still though - we don't sell through any of the portal sites such as Real Arcade, you can only buy though Moonpod.com. I am pretty much convinced that Starscape has mainly sold on word of mouth - we've tracked lots of sales to webmail services (so I'm guessing people emailed their friends about Starscape - although I could be wrong) and lots of sales to forums where we've been mentioned. Even though we might not get the volume of sales RealArcade does, it's kind of nice to know people not only bought the game, but told everyone they knew about it too - we feel pretty humble at the support we've had from the online gaming community. |

Ha! Yeah, the only problem is you are thinking along the lines of film trailers. Most of the time you can't even get animating adverts on websites (At least we can't ). Conventional advertising wisdom says 'put as much text and click here links as possible' but we always try to do fairly subtle, or even abstract imagery. I always think if people don't like it, then at least they haven't had some headache inducing animated gif interrupt their web browsing experience.

oh i got one.
the camara is inside a tank. and there are some guys talking about what they're going to do when they leave the army, Then suddenly the tank shudders, and one of them asks "what was that"?!?
"dunno, oh who cares"
ythen the camara switches outside and there are about 50 tanks running over this trench filled with alien scum, blasting the **** out of them. and then a messages comes up on the ad and says it could be you!. this idea really sucks doesn't it. |

How about this ad?:
Build your army up.
Respectfully meet your enemy on the battlefeild.
Then blow them to smitherings.
"Haha, I totally owned you!"
"We'll see about that. I have a trick up my sleeve."
"Oh **** I forgot about that area."
Battlescape. This time it's online. |

If I may say, since this has been bumped, I quite like the ads for Starscape. That one with the girl with the pink eyes (can't remember the name. I think it's one of the enigeers) is really neat. And they don't slow down my computer like those stupid LotR games ads do. |
