I just order US editions them from playusa.com anyway - although there's no German sub or dub on the disc if you need that. It's out in the UK too now - although their releases are about 2 months behind so I haven't bothered to get any, but I think they are essentially the same disc (i.e: no subs other than English)

I'm almost certain german fan subtitles are knokcing around, but it would mean watching the dvd on your pc using an app that can display separate subtitle files.

Subtitles aren't the problem, I had some english FanSubs here. The problem is that amazon.de is listing only the first DVD (as uk-import), the other DVD's are missing.

They are only up to the third DVD in the series in the US, and I think the first 2 are out in the UK.

Is there some reason you need to use amazon.de especially though?

I forget now - you had to use eft to pay for Starscape didn't you? I thought most German bank accounts came with Maestro? There must be someone who accepts maestro and does US dvd imports??

You need a region free DVD player of course, and NTSC capable TV.

No, was just a fast look if the DVDs are available in Germany / German (but this isn't too important to me). Gotta visit the local anime / manga import shop these days. It's a gold mine!

Maestro? Uhm... Yes. I payed for Starscape via this IBAN bank transfer thingy, which was luckily free of extra fees.

Wah? But that's the best part of the movie! Wink

Well, besides the brain numbing plot and all that.

There's plenty of 'fan service' on show throughout the series.

How about Motoko flashing some stocking whilst kicking butt in her tight fitting General's show uniform. Or in series 2 when she infiltrates a 'sex doll' party for the rich under the guise of one of the dolls. Or when she visits her apartment where she appears to have two scantily clad female lovers shacked up.

Fan Service is all a bit daft though - fundamentally, we just love Motoko because she's cool as ice. I'd rather the animators spend their time on scenes like when she gets particularly angry taking on a full armoured suit (towards the end of series 1)

Motoko Rocks!

the one thing i do'nt get is

why does the major have a leather jacket as part of her infelrtation gear

in the manga
she wore an skin tight stealth suit

in the movie
she wore nothing (the stealth system was built into her skin)

but in the anime
she wheres a leather jacket

HUH?

She also appears to wear a half-thong backed swimsuit underneath the jacket, and no-one bats an eyelid at the Sector 9 meetings. Confused

In the series, everyone has personal camouflage systems - I guess they didn't want us to see Batou running around naked with his parts flapping about. Shocked

I think that was a wise decision Wink

so shiro is in to fan service
what else is new

ever read the origonal GITS manga i heard thare was a lesbian sex seen that was cut from the dark horse version (but they let in the naked android)

however in the manga kusanagi wore normal clothes and was waring a full body suit when she jumped off the building

to tell you the truth i think her combat gear
is a lot sexier than her normal outfit

on a side note i wounder what the major's personal add would be like
i am a strong atracive female whith purple hair
my turn ons are guns computers and cybernetics
my hobbys include jumping off buildings in the nude and shooting things

Yeah - the lesbian sex scene is in one of the artbooks I have (Intron Depot 1), although it's not anything you'd miss. There's a similar issue going on with the Ghost In The Shell 2 manga - which was has a separate, racier release in Japan. whether Dark horse will do the same has yet to be seen. Actually, I haven't looked for ages what's going on with that. I'll look into it now.

I'd always had a sneaky suspicion that Motoko was actually a man though in a woman's cyber-body. There's an episode in series 2 though that hints at why she had a full cyber-body transplant at a very young age where ni fact she is definitely female from birth.

Gah! The Book is already released!!!:
http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-288

http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/1764.htmlThis is a pretty good preview:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/juzzam1/gits2.htm

and an interesting interview with Dark Horse about the US release:
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/1764.html

Apparently it is censored, but only ni the same way as the final cut Japanese version was. the whole thing has been digitally recomposed for English style reading too - nice side effect of Shirow's investment in photoshop work these past eyars.

I'm thinking - it's Valentine's day soon, and my wife should get me a present Very Happy

you to

but you forget
SAC is a parallel universe where fuchikomas wer never invented, kusanagi never meat the puppet master, it is un-nessary to remove all clothing before jumping off bildings, and the members of section 9 have a sense of humor

it seems that there are 3 parallel universes for gits
why couldn't they have left it 2 and had sac folow the manga
