Hi,

I just started playing Mr. Robot, and have noticed two things:

1. At my monitor's native 1920x1080 resolution, everything is stretched. Is there any way to enable 16:9 aspect ratio? I can play just fine at 1440x1080, but obviously it would be nice to use my screen's entire real-estate.

2. According to RivaTuner, the framerate seems locked at around 25fps. Resolution changes don't affect this, and it stays the same when I force 16X anti-aliasing, so it's not an issue of GPU power.

Is there any way to raise the framerate to 60fps, or at least 30?

My system:
Windows XP Pro 32 bit
9600 GT
Core2Duo e8400

Thanks in advance!

No way to set it to widescreen. As for the framerate, what's your monitor's refresh rate set at?

60Hz, the only thing it can handle. So a strict Vsynch would be 60, 30, or even 20.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter much to me anymore as I just beat the game Smile

Maybe I'll replay it on Hard someday (the hacking RPG was way too easy), but for now, ciao!

Sorry about that, normally you can get the system to put black borders on either side to stop it stretching, you'd need to consult your graphics control panel I think.

I've heard a few comments recently that hacking was too easy, what was your technique? I'd be interested to hear what you thought of hard mode.

My system can put black borders on the site of 4:3 resolutions, which is why I played at 1440x1080. But when I set the game to 1920x1080, the game engine provides full 1920x1080 worth of image, so there's nothing to "black border." It just all happens to be stretched. Funny thing is I didn't even realize it was stretched until I noticed the planet in the intro being an oval. I just thought all the robots were stocky Smile.

I barely used any spells except healing and the occasional buff. Mostly it was just physical attacks and extremes. By the end the party was Asimo, Brutus, random Heavy (didn't save Samson), and Zelda. Raistlin was in there for a while till being replaced by a Heavy. Every ability modifier went into Strength. By the end, I had the strength of all four ghosts maxed out.

I think the main reason it was easy was that there were WAY too many energy/power healing items. Almost every single battle would provide one. And you got L3 ones from the very beginning when you didn't even have any Ghost besides Asimo! I never even used one in battle either.

Btw, the Heavies' "Insta Kill" extreme is rather useless when compared to the Uni Strike. By the time you get Insta Kill, the Transgenic-wielding Heavy can kill any one enemy (other than Hel) with a single Uni Strike.

It'll probably be quite a while before I get to it. After Steam's holiday sale I've got a humongous backlog of games to play. Getting the Eidos pack of 20 games didn't help Smile.

By the way, do the platforming sections get harder? Because on Normal these were definitely hard enough for me (mostly because of the slippery floors, or momentum, or whatever you want to call it.) I often took the time to hack a bunch of the bots just to make it unnecessary to avoid them while avoiding water and fire and spikes etc at the same time.

Hey, just now after watching a Lets Play video of Mr. Robot I figured out why I was having a hard time with the platforming - I was under the impression that you had only 4 directions of movement in the game! This is because I'm using a controller (X-Box 360 wired) and there is very low tolerance for error on the diagonal movement. So until actually giving it a good effort I wasn't able to move diagonally (where diagonally means a different thing depending on the "up alignment" setting.) After experimenting I still can't do it reliably, so I guess next time I'll be using a keyboard for movement.

Thanks for the feedback, I think one of the reasons I favoured making it easier is because I had quite a few people find it very difficult, at least in the early parts of the game. I think I need to adjust the difficulty curve up in later levels (probably just by bringing down the number of healing pickups) and re-balance those physical attacks and extremes.

To stop hacking getting too hard again (for some people) I might make the system remember nodes you've hacked i.e. you can hack in, take down a few nodes, go back out, return later and the nodes you hacked are still down. So if you are cool with hacking you can do it one sitting, if not you can take your time.

In hard mode there are less pickups generally and instead of 3 lives with 3 levels of damage on each, you have one life with 3 levels of damage. So the platforming sections will end up a little harder due to the lack of life.

I sometimes play with a X360 pad, but keys are easier.

Here's an idea - how about separate configurable levels of difficulty for the platforming and hacking sections? IIRC that's how System Shock did it (well that was shooter and hacking sections, but you get the idea Very Happy ).

Personally I thought the extremes were good, except for the Insta Kill. Though Hel did fall in only two-three rounds because of three Uni Strikes. But he used one of the rounds to heal >100 damage, so if he had made a habbit of doing that, without Uni Strikes or lucky crits that battle could've lasted forever (or as long as he had Power anyway.)

Admittedly, in the Lets Play I was watching, the person did have trouble with the hacking sections (prior to locating Orgus) so he actually spent an unrecorded hour grinding up to level 4 for both Asimov and Zelda. He wouldn't have been able to do that if the nodes stayed purged after exit.

Also, is there a way to heal platforming damage other than collecting new energon? I couldn't find a way to use already stockpiled energon to repair damage, and that would've been real useful.

Different difficulty is interesting, but if there is a more transparent / automatic solution I think that would be worth trying first. I like the idea of nodes staying purged more and more.

The reason you can revisit a network again and again (until it is completed) is to allow players finding it hard to grind up their levels. They shouldn't HAVE to do that, but they can.

If nodes stay purged that becomes harder to do, but thinking about it, it is unlikely a player will complete all hacks, find it hard and then be unable to find anywhere easy to grind. There are so many places to hack and robots to hack that just seems unlikely. The downside of being able to grind a network, is a player might be tempted to do it when they don't need to and then everything becomes artificially easy.

Same thing happened in Starscape, sometimes players would grind asteroids in level1 "just because they could" and then find the game too easy and boring. In that case I added powerful enemies "The Space Worms!!" that would chase you out of a level if you were hanging around in there for too long.

Healing platforming damage from old energon - have to be careful here not to make it too easy, it's a fine balance. Eve terminals (shops) will already heal a downed ghost, I suppose they could heal your physical damage too. Although if you could convert energon into health that would give people something else to do with their money and currently I think there is a bit too much money sloshing around. Maybe at a higher cost i.e. 2 energon for one health pip.
