|
|
I just bought Mr Robot on steam.
I cant play the game because I am getting an assert failed error.
It happens when I go to create a new profile at the start of the game.
I type in my profile name and click ok, but the game then freezes.
When I have alt tabbed out of the game, I find an assert failed error box on my desktop.
This box reads as follows:
Error: couldn't write file F:\My Docs Windows 7/MrRobot/data/saves/deleteme0.tmp
Assert failed!
Expression: 0
File: .\Source\frontend.cpp
Line: 4236
Function: CProfile::save
Call Stack:
00506FA5 0012F068 0001:00105FA5 e
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Does the game have access rights to f:\my docs windows 7\?
Maybe something went wrong with the access rights. Is the game run with administration privileges? |

I am using windows 7.
I tried right clicking the games shortcut and selecting "run as administrator".
But the same error occurred. |

I'm confused by that one, sounds like Windows is refusing to allow it to save. I have windows7 myself and it works fine.
Are you sure you installed the game and ran it from an administrator account? Not that it should really matter, but I can't see why Win7 would deny access to a file other than it has got confused about security.
I'd recommend un-installing the game, then manually deleting your mydocuments\mrrobot folder and starting again.
p.s. worksop is only a few miles away from me - small world |

Forgot to post that I have managed to get it working now.
I think both Steam & the game both needed to be run as administrator.
Anyway, its working now so I must have done something right.
Bloody windows 7 user account control is a pain in the arse.
I am seriously considering turning it off alltogether.
Sheffield eh mate. I go past it every morning on my way to work at Ossett near Wakefield. |

| Yes, I skipped Vista, I just had an install for testing and thought the user access control was just terrible. Can't keep using an ageing winXP sadly, so when I got win7 in for testing I gave in and used it for my main development machine too. Even though the user access control is toned down it is still really painful and I've almost turned it off completely a couple of times. Still, it should make for a more secure system so I'll persevere a bit longer. |
