I just got through buying Mr. Robot off of Steam but seem to be having a bit of a problem. From reading other posts it looks like it's probably being caused by my Saitek keyboard. Basically, when I go to the main menu it just keep quickly scrolling through all options. I can't even quit unless I hit alt+F4.

From another post (http://www.moonpod.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=3720) is looks like someone else had the same problem in Windows 7 (I'm running Vista 64) and resolved it by disabling the driver for the extra pad that can attach to the Saitek keyboard I have. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Vista will let me disable the driver as it doesn't even give me the option. I tried plugging in the extra pad to see if it would help but it didn't. The gamepad options in Control Panel won't let me disable it either and I don't have another gamepad to hook up and set as the default.

Anyway, I would like to be able to play without having to get another keyboard. Is it possible to disable gamepad support for the game so it will just ignore my Saitek?

Those Saitek keyboards are infamous, how they can generate spurious input when the pad isn't even plugged in I don't know. I don't have Vista so I don't know how you would uninstall a faulty driver - surely it is possible? Anyone?

Well, I'm sure I could uninstall the driver, but I figure it will probably just reinstall itself after rebooting since the keyboard will still be plugged in. I guess I could go ahead and try it though and see what happens. I wish Device Manager would just let me disable it, but it doesn't look like Vista will let you disable anything Keyboard or Mouse related Confused

I'm guessing there isn't any way to disable gamepad support with a command line option or by editing a config file or the Registry huh?

no there isn't - but it shouldn't reinstall anything, the game command pad (or whatever it is called) is not needed to use the keyboard.

I realize it's not needed for the keyboard to function, but it is detected even if it's not actually plugged into the keyboard. I've never had it plugged in on this system (until last night when I tried to see if it would help in Mr. Robot) but the driver was already installed.

Anyway, I'll see what happens when I uninstall the driver. Hopefully it won't automatically reinstall itself.

:EDIT:
Well dang, I'm dumb. Device manager will let you disable the gamepad, it just wasn't showing it by default. Once I had it show me all the hidden devices, I saw the entry for the extra pad. I disabled it, but unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue Sad

I still have the exact same problem once I load into the game. Hmm, time for some more troubleshooting I guess...

:EDIT2:
Unplugging the keyboard is definitely the issue as everything is fine in game with it unplugged. Tried disabling the hot keys (volume control keys) since there was an entry for that as well. Looks like that fixed it. Everything is fine with both the command pad and the volume control buttons disabled. Tried turning on just the pad and the problems returns. Looks like having either of them turned on makes the game wig out.

I'm ok with not having the command pad, but not having the volume keys sucks Sad I guess I'll try using the keyboard that came with my computer instead. I think it has volume buttons on it, but it has ****** laptop style keys. Dang it.

:EDIT3:
Yep, no issues with the new keyboard. I wonder what kind of weird stuff Saitek did with those old gamer keyboards? Although, I've never had an issue with it in any other games... Maybe the question should be; What kind of weird stuff did Moonpod do with their game? Razz No offense guys! I'm wondering if it's maybe a Vista thing? I know I didn't have any issues with Starscape and I used this exact same keyboard when I played that, but I also played on XP. Oh well, no big deal. I can live with this keyboard till I'm done playing Mr. Robot.

Oh yeah, so just in case you missed it Poo Bear, it looks like the weird input is caused by the volume keys as well, which is why you still see them even when the pad isn't plugged in.

Glad you got a workaround, I've heard a few times that the Saitek keyboard is a bit wonky, but I'll revisit it the next time we do an update and make MrRobot more resistant to such things.

If you like I can test another Saitek keyboard to see if it has the same problem. My brother has the Eclipse (the one with the back lit keys) that is exactly like mine other than it doesn't have the external keypad. The volume control buttons look the exact same as the ones on my keyboard. I can go hook it up and see if it has the same problem if want.

I'm just glad my fancy keyboard (the original version of the Logitech G15, which is completely awesome) doesn't have any problems.
