Sometimes an interupted Gravistar or JumpIntradictor (the ones that make the tiny ships) will make a single ship, instead of 16 or 20. They are brighter than normal ships; their engine trails are almost solid green/yellow; and their health and firepower are insane.
This normally happens when I fly straight at a Gravistar that has just started putting out ships, and enter the grav-well range. It switches from making ships to gravity, and makes all of the unlaunched ships turn into one like this:
Linky
It only does this once, then returns to normal operation. I can interupt them multiple times per Jump, but it isn't always successful. I realize that this is not normal behavior, but it would be neat if it was made standard.
I was thinking something along the lines of: When I close in on a Gravistar/Interdictor/FinalBoss (Yes, it happened on the final boss battle once as well) the capital ship purges all of the fighters as a single super fighter, then returns to normal operation.
Oh, and that FinalBoss Super-Drone hit me with one of it's shots and took down my Shield 4 at full power and took off 1/3 of my Devastator's health. It took four salvos of six Beam 4s to kill it. |

I love it when bugs turn into gameplay features
Sounds like all 16 fighters are stuck on top of each other - weird. |

That's what I figure happened. Could you ummm.... turn it into a feature? Make it a standard behavior every so often? It was almost impossible to do this with the Interdicters, because they had no alternate mode like the Gravistars do. I only managed to do it once with the Interdicter.
BTW: What ghosts, icarus? |

A design feature?!
i dunno, one moment you see that drone and expect to kill it with a shot or so, and the next thing you know, it blew up your personal battlecruiser or the Aegis in a single shot.. (making it more dangerous than a mothership..)
And considering their usual number and the fact that they are rarelly alone, chances are that you wont understand what just happened when you suddently explode in the middle of the swarm.
Just throwing an idea like that, maybe the ship could launch a handfull of drones quikly, but "charged up" going quite faster and glowing.. |

| The charged drones take damage in a series, not all at the same time. It explodes once for each drone inside, so it's weakened over time. And they are really easy to spot, their colors are really bright and the engine trails are longer and almost solid. |

Sometimes I have seen exhaust trails spontaneously appear in empty zones. |
