Ok how do I say this without sounding stupid?
I have been writing down the ideas for an MMORPG.
What I would like to do is throw the concept out in the open and see what people think of it.
*sigh* Here goes..
--
The general idea is that you and the rest of the players are the remenants of the crew of a space station, Each game lasts two weeks or so and after that the characters are reset.
For an idea of game configuration, I think something like www.starportgame.com <--Starport: Galactic Empires handles things (Multiple independant servers running, Each resetting at regular times)
The main driving influence behind this is "What if system shock, I and II got turned into an MMO?" insofar that you are in a race to take control of the starship/spacestation that you are on, And competing with the local nasties while you are at it.
Survival would be another key element, By not dissapearing when you log off, Players would be encouraged to team up and fortify sections of the game. I have tons of great ideas on what you could do with a game-wide power grid (I.E It got disabled when the station/ship died, Someone gets it back up and power is restored. But catch 22 states that now anyone can use the power.) but I would save that for another post.
In summery:
I think an Isometric sci-fi survival MMORPG that resets itself every two weeks would be a good idea.
Do you? |

| It has the potential to be a great idea, but it really depends where you take it from here. It's a basic premise, but what about the features, gameplay, etc? |

i personly have always wanted to see a "hardcore" persistent world MMO
harcore meaning once you die your chars gone rofl.
of cource add in features like making Kiddies that you can use once you loose your char and let you pass on some skills, so the game becomes about thinking ahead rather then just playing now.....but i am an odd one... |

my idea
in the ideal MMORPG
death is permentnt (but it would be hard to die and a healer can revive you if he/she gets to you in 5 minuets)
monsters only spawn when nobody is around (to prevent spawn camping)
all citys are built by players
lots of options for crafting
lots of options for character creation
no classes or leveling (you gain character points which are spent on skills and stats)
now thats something i would pay $15 a month for |

Amen to that.
That actually is another one of my ideas gathering dust - Sci-Fi MMORPG with minimal non-player content.

Anyhow, To awnser Hamish's question:
I think that the game should be played in an isometric perspective similar to what is being done with Mr. Robot.
For the stat and skill portion, Everytime you do something that is linked to a skill you will gain an ammount of general experience points and specialist experience points (General points are for all skills, Specialist skills are for one skill pool only - You cant shoot monsters and instantly learn how to hack computers or somesuch.)
Gameplay would revolve around the primary goal of survival, With the ultimate goal of winning the game by taking control of the Space Station. Depending on the scenario this may be accomplished in many different ways, I.E Removing an evil A.I From power, Being the "Last man standing", Etc. *
One of the most never-seen-before type features IMO is that most games would be created by hand.
If you read the first post, Each game lasts 2+ Weeks and is then reset.
So its a different game *most* times, I realise that would be really hard to accomplish, But you cant deny it would be cool.

My foremost regret is that the chances of me being able to make this - Perhaps ever - are very slim.
